A Death

December 2, 2009 | Uncategorized

Some of you may remember my close friend, Cathie, who I worked with at El Palacio’s for several years. Cathie had three children; Richard (Ben’s Age) Kirsty (Maria’s age) and Malinda (a little younger). Cathie lost her daughter, Kirsty, to a year-long battle with cancer. It was discovered in both breasts, and immediately spread under her arms, and her thighs, and she was just in agony the last months of her life, but she taught 2nd grade at a Muslim school (Kirsty married a man from Jordan, and converted to the Muslim religion). She dragged up on days when Cathie thought it would be impossible and went to work. I’m very torn up about this, because I love Cathie so much, and I watched her children grow up.

  2. Cathie was so very, very close to her daughter. Kirsty left behind two little children; a boy and girl; ages 4 and 2. And of course, a husband who loved his wife dearly. Kirsty had spent quite a bit of time in Jordan with Josef’s people. The last time she went about three years ago, without her husband, and taught school there for three months.

Needless to say, Cathie is heartbroken, and the whole family grief stricken. Believe it or not, the Mickwee’s are still alive. Mr. Mickwee is 90 and Mrs. Mickwee is 89. I remember when we celebrated Mr. Mickwee’s 70th birthday, and now I’m 72. The Mickwee’s owned El-Palacio’s, and why they put up with me is more than I will ever know.

  3. Mom, I know you will be a great comfort to Cathy. You always were one to be a good friend to others. You have had quite a few close friends over your lifetime , I think you are very blessed indeed.
