New Family Search
September 2, 2009 | Uncategorized
Mom, I just registered with the New Family Search website (http://new.familysearch.com) of the Church. It’s an advanced version of the current product the Church has for doing genealogical research online, but it’s far more powerful.
I always wondered why they didn’t come up with something like this before, but I guess the technology had to evolve before it was feasible.
The basic idea from what I can see, is they’ve combined ALL the genealogical information from the various sources like IGI, Temple records, etc., and then added the ability to have any registered individual add, delete or change information pretty much at will, through the website interface.
It’s very powerful, as you might imagine. It gives you ONE PLACE to put all your genealogical records, and further it makes it where everyone else’s work that might apply to you is immediately accessible as well.
Think of it as a bazillion-piece jigsaw puzzle, with a million people working on it at one time. It’s rather staggering to the imagination.
There are ways that you can collaborate with other people on research, so that for instance we could work to “connect the pieces” of our family tree, and fill in any information WE have, while actually working on different areas of the “tree.”
Anyway, I urge you to try it out. I’m going to try to start building my family tree today. Of course, any of my sibs who want to help, can. I don’t even have any idea how much Pagan stuff has been done, but with being able to all work together it ought to be easier and more efficient.
Love, Bill Jr.

Bill, I clicked on there (New.familysearch.com) and it took me to the site where I have been working for months now!!
I have been talking about it. It’s wonderful. Of course, I’m in distress now over the fact that too many of my ancestors have had their work only partially done, and I don’t know what to do about it. For instance Margie Elizabeth Davis has been baptized, confirmed, and her initiatories done…but that ends in 2003. Her Endowment and sealing to parents has not been done. I have no pick card, and no way to get one that I know of at the moment.
I think this work was done in the Birmingham Temple after I left there. It was submitted in my name.
Also, I have been so excited to see some of my ancestors hooked up to somebody else, giving me whole new lines.
