Moving On

July 30, 2009 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Lainie’s moving into her new place, and Carmen and Jason found a big two-story house. They’re moving out this week-end. They have lots of help from church members, Tony and Austin, and Jason’s friends. It’s in the same neighborhood, so they’ll be in the same Ward and Jordan will be in the same school. They’re previous landlord is doing a quick sale on his house. It is such a beautiful home. Oh, well. We don’t have a thing to worry about with Obamacare on the march.

She’s 27!  Yes, it’s true!  Little Crystal is barreling fast toward her big 30. Just kidding, Crystal.  You still have three beautiful long years before that happens.

I hope you had a happy birthday.

Love…from your favorite Nana.

Lainie, a very nice woman called from a laundrymat in texas city and said she found your cell phone.  her name is Nita.  her phone number is 281-508-3898.  She said she would hold it for you.  Just give her a call and she’ll get it to you.  You both may be in the same apartment complex probably.   I thanked her so much for calling to return it.

I love this one.  I wish I had paid attention, and read it over and over, and embeeded it in my mind, and then maybe I could have voided some of the pitfalls in my life.  It is this:  By President Ezra Taft Benson (1899-1904.  He said, “When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, in that moment God will endow us with power.”  How very simple.  How very true.  I read my Patriarchal Blessing, and sadly see the missteps.  But once we make the mistakes, they cannot be undone.  They can only be repented of.  However….at least “He remembers the sins no more”.

Bill….

Your Uncle Fred will have been deceased one year on August 5th (I think??).  His temple work should be done as soon as possible.  If you don’t know how to do the NEWFAMILY program, someone in the Family History Center will help you prepare his card.  You will probably have to wait until your youth group goes to the temple for baptisms…that’s the most difficult ordinance to get done.  Then you can do the rest in one day.  Do it soon.  Fred shouldn’t have to stay in the spirit prison.  It’s dismal there, compared to paradise, I’m sure.  Fred was a wonderful man.  And remember…your Aunt Amanda told you to “Seal Away!!!”  I take that as firm permission.  You don’t need anymore.

LAINIE….

Bring us up to date.  Is Casey with you?  Did you get an apartment on the beach?

What’s happening?  Do you still work at the same place, and I’ve forgotten.  Either Home Depot or Lowe’s.  My brain has almost leaked away.

I tried calling you at exactly 9:30 PM EST, but didn’t leave a message.  I would like very much to talk to you.

Buddy…It’s been a long, long time since I’ve talked to you.  I didn’t even get the chance when we were in Birmingham.  Please call me from time to time.  You’ll be glad that you did, and sad that you didn’t.

I would give my right arm to spend just five minutes with my mother.  She’s been gone for over 48 long years, and I cannot even remember the sound of her voice.

You only have one mother in a lifetime.  I have always regretted not cherishing the short time I had with mine.  I didn’t know it was going to be brought to a close so quickly.

And Heaven Forbid that I should EVER have to bury a child!!

Checking In – After Long Hiatus

My job search is going…well, nowhere at the moment.

This is the strangest job-hunting experience I’ve ever had. I’ve seen times in the past where there just don’t seem to be any jobs available, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this time – at least, judging by the advertisements, Internet listings, and even the cold-calling experiences that I’ve had.

But even as people aver that they are looking for someone to fill their positions, they just don’t seem particularly eager to do so anytime soon. LOTS of telephone conversations, lots of recruiters calling in response to my Monster.com resume, lots of positive responses from cold-calling, even. But it’s “well, we’ll get back to you real soon, we’re very interested.”

But they don’t get back to me, and they don’t seem to be nearly so interested as they say. When I follow up, I get “oh, yeah, we haven’t really had time to get to your application yet. If you don’t hear from us by next week, give us another call.”

“Summer doldrums,” indeed.
