Macon GA (Leone DR)

Surprise, here is our house on Leone DR in Macon, GA. We moved here after Brenda was born at the Boy Scout Camp in Byron. Dad went to Thailand the year we were here… we joined the church and had neighbors: Rochelle & Fam to the right next door, a fam with a German Shepherd that scratched me up on our left next door, Julie across the street, Fred down the block almost on the corner and Ilene and fam around the block… Mom has film here of our Barber Shop session with Dad when he got home from Thailand:)

Luis says that our house number was 2418 Leone Drive. I drove by there at least three times when I was in Macon looking for that house. I located the LOCATION, that is, exactly where the house should be, but the house that was there looked so entirely different. It may have been the house you have photoed. Let’s just pretend. I want it to be that house.

If you go to Google maps and type in the address we had, it will take you to the street. I remembered the house on the corner tilted out and the look of the Romages house next door plus the opening into our BackYard. I think you’ll see that this is the one.

Yes, I’m sure it must be the one. It has to be, mainly because of that house of the corner that is a giveaway, and then the Romages house next door. It just has to be. SOME HOUSE had to be put in that space.

It’s the one. Don’t ask me why I know because my memory is horrible but the second I saw the pic I knew that house.
I have very few memories of that house. I got my first easy bake oven there. I used to hide my food behind the couch when Mom wasn’t looking.

You must have gotten your easy bake oven for Christmas of 1967 Beth. Luis was in Thailand. You four Polhemuses spent Christmas with your Dad. Aunt Lilla and Uncle Joe begged me to let them have Brenda for Christmas, just so they could have a little child in the house. Uncle Joe played with Brenda non-stop. Daddy went out to Fanny’s….and I found myself completely alone. Had never happened before in my life, and has never happened since. it was WEIRD. Christmas day was on Sunday, so I did get to go to church and be with some people for a little while. I was so glad when everybody came home.

I was checking out at the grocery store a few weeks back. Ryder and Dylan were grabbing stuff and tussling with each other. I was telling them to “Stop Making So Much Noise!” thru clenched teeth. This elderly lady was cashiering. She said “Believe me when I say, you will miss the noise when it stops”. I believe her.
