Another Death

When we first moved here almost six years ago, I was called to be the secretary in the Primary. Jonna Green was the President. She was something else!! She was pregnant with her sixth child. I loved to watch the way Kirk, her husband, and she handled their little children, who ranged in age at that time about 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. Three boys and two girls.
Both of their families had deep roots in the church.
Kirk’s parents were members of our ward, too. She played the piano in Primary, and Brother Green was the Sunday School teacher.
At that time, Kirk was already very ill. I think it had something to do with an aneurism.
Anyway, Jonna took such good care of him. Sometimes, she had to hold onto him with both arms to keep his whole body from shaking during Sacrament, but he was always in church, and he was the ward clerk.
He died this morning. He was about 37, I believe. Of course, it was expected all this years.
The children are older now, and they have known that their father wasn’t going to live very long. They are such good disciplined children.

Yes, it was a special day for Beth and me forty-six years ago today. She was born about 4:30 in the afternoon at St. Vincent’s Hospital. A friend dropped me off (my water broke), and I walked up to the maternity room, and presented myself. I told the nurse at the desk that I was ready to have my baby. She looked around, and wanted to know who was with me. I told her “nobody”. She was very sweet, and also very upset. Evidently that didn’t happen very often. But it couldn’t be helped. Daddy and Aunt Lucille were down at the lake. Dean (Jeannette’s mother, who dropped me off, had to hurry back home and take care of her own little baby.) Jeannette had Dean to take care of. Jeannette’s mother and her had baby’s just six weeks apart.
No matter. Three hours later….Beth made her appearance. All rosy and beautiful and healthy. A headful of black hair, just as cute as a little button. The two of us were very comfortable there in the hospital all alone together. We didn’t care if nobody was there.
We had each other.

Well, it’s going to be on a Saturday, so you’ll not have to go to work! You can just have a good time relaxing at home…right? Nothing to worry about? No housework to do. No grocery shopping or cooking or washing dishing or washing clothes, or running kids here or there??
I tell you one thing! It takes Dad, me and Jani all three chasing after this one little baby we have in this house. He is SOMETHING ELSE! He fusses from daylight until dark. He’s teething like crazy, and he screeches and screams constantly. And he drools worse that Christopher ever did.
Christopher. You’re off the hook! You have met your match!

here’s a few pictures of the new paint job and mom and dad’s house – so far. i only got two ends of the room done so far. we didn’t get the area behind the entertainment center yet b/c of time and it would be heavy to move. i also haven’t gotten the kitchen done yet but am thinking about doing that wall and in the kitchen a pretty blue color to temper the yellow. i’ll try to post more pics when it’s done.

sorry I haven’t been on, I was in the midst of moving into my own apartment. a roommate was nice for a while but I prefer my own home. Its a nice one bedroom, with washer and dryer and a nice pool. the living room is enormous. its still in texas city just a few blocks from work. the move wiped me out with deposits and all but it was nice to get a place with my name on the lease and no help from anyone again . Makes me feel better about myself taking care of my self. When I get my minutes back mom I will give you my number.

Yesterday, another of our friends in the temple died suddenly. He was faithful everyday to be at his station at the front desk to welcome all patrons to the temple. Such a sweet man. His wife died about three years ago. I know they had a happy reunion. His children were getting ready to celebrate his 85th birthday.
I just worked up at the front desk with him last Tuesday.
