Mom

For those of you who don’t know, Mom went into septic shock early saturday morning. She’s in the hospital now and in stable condition. She was in the ICU yesterday but they moved her to a regular room today, room 203A. Dad said it’d be better if no one called her today b/c she’s still on meds and needs to rest. The doctors finally took some x-rays and found out that she has pneumonia. I guess the septic shock was a by-product of that. Anyway, she’s doing well now and may be released tomorrow.

I hate to sound like an alarmist but, septic shock has a very high mortality rate (around 50%). Keep us updated.

She’s over the worse part and very stable. She wouldn’t have been moved out of icu if she were still in danger. when i when and saw her sunday she was feeling pretty good (comparatively speaking) and was in a good mood. She’s doing pretty well right now but i will post any updates.

Thanks for the update Maria.
Dad told me the doctors said it was her adenoids. And that she contrived blood poisoning due to the infection. Is this not the case?

well, it was at the time. they just determined pneumonia as of yesterday. the glands being swollen is a result of that as is the septic shock (blood poisoning). when people are her age and have weakened immune systems a case of pneumonia often leads to secondary problems. so, this is basically how i understand it so far. She might enjoy having some phone calls today though i’m not sure if they’ve let her go home yet or not. either way i’m sure she’s probably pretty bored and would’t mind a little talking. It always puts her in a better mood to hear from one of her children UNLESS they bog her down with problems of their own. SO NO COMPLAINING! Sorry beth, that’s not directed at you specifically. you’re just the unlucky one i happen to be responding to when i thought to write it! So…only happy, cheerful thoughts everyone.

Darn, without my doom, despair and agony… I have nothing to talk about:( I guess I could just call her and read from my favorite Cook Book:)

No one commented on Bill’s report of going into “toxic shock” due to food poisoning, but it is my understanding that that is pretty dangerous stuff, too. It get’s into the blood, and poisons it, and basically begins to shut down the immune system, which is probably what happened in Bill’s case, as well as mine.
