Mom Update

Mom’s feeling much, much better today and they are releasing her from the hospital. She had pneumonia, and infection in her glands and septic shock from the infections. She’s on antibiotics now and will have to be much more quick about getting to a doctor in the future when she gets a cough. She’s now had pneumonia twice this year (and been hospitalized both times) and had an episode of bronchitis as well. BUT, as I said, she’s doing well now and can’t wait to get home and check out her new reupholstered kitchen and dining room chairs.

For those of you who don’t know, Mom went into septic shock early saturday morning. She’s in the hospital now and in stable condition. She was in the ICU yesterday but they moved her to a regular room today, room 203A. Dad said it’d be better if no one called her today b/c she’s still on meds and needs to rest. The doctors finally took some x-rays and found out that she has pneumonia. I guess the septic shock was a by-product of that. Anyway, she’s doing well now and may be released tomorrow.

For your Christmas gift of what I suppose is some homemade candy by YOU. It’s GOOD. It came yesterday when I was on my second miserable day of preping for the colonoscopy. The procedure only takes 30 minutes, during which time you are asleep…but the preparation is awful. You have to eat only blah stuff like broth and jello and drink a gallon of yukky, yukky stuff. I didn’t get ready the first day, and had to do it AGAIN. So, I was ready for some good sweets, and your candy hit the spot.

I hosted a Singer-Songwriter’s night at Barrister’s in Hoover on my Birthday. I was thrilled to not only have 20 fabulous Songwriters come in and play for me on my Birthday, My 2 sisters Brenda & Beth came along with Seay Polhemus and an old friend of mine David Smith who drove in from Atlanta to play. Beth & Brenda got me a great Nose Pickin card along with some fresh home made candies…. it was a great night and I appreciated them so much:)

Our Ward Christmas Dinner was tonight. We just ate and ran. Before we ran out, Sister Milton came over and told me that her parents were moving down to Deland, and would be in our Ward. Sister Florence Schutz and I were were visiting teachers to Sister Mears. (Brother and Sister Mears are Tracy Milton’s parents). That is a coincidence itself. Sister Mears is 83, and he is 79. Sister Schutz was the second black member of First Ward in Birmingham. (well, the first black member (s) was a family of four) and then Sister Schutz. She and I were great friends for several years. We (Luis and I) along with Brother and Sister Mears and Florence Schutz and Bobbie and Patrick Steele and Patsy Clayton and Betty Rice (and others), were all cut off from First Ward and made into Third Ward over close to (what is the name of that High School?????) Some of you kids went to that school, and I can’t even remember it.)
Before Florence died of cancer, I visited her several times in the hospital, and then I helped to dress her for burial in her Priesthood Clothing.

The Miracle of Newfamily

I am continuing to be awed by the “strange” things that happen to me when I come into the office, intent on going into the Newfamily Program to just see where it carries me. I close the door for privacy, and sometimes have a prayer.
Last night, I saw the pink card with the name “Willie Frances Holland” on it. It had a big red cross on it, which meant that I had turned it over to the temple, and I could just file it away, and check in six months to see if the work had been done. She was only seven years old, and should only require sealing to her parents. I hoped that would be caught and the Baptism, Confirmation only would be performed. The initiatory and Endowment were not necessary. I could only hope. So I keyed in Her parents, and there before my shocked eyes was Willie Frances Holland, Her work had been done! Only one of those children still lives, and he is Tom Holland. I suppose he is at least 83 years old and Evelyn must be 95.

So, i’m thinking those of us with good recipes should post them on the site somewhere – especially mom. You need to post your dressing recipe and your peach cobbler recipe. Also, don’t you have a good recipe for chocolate brownies and/or cake. And I’m sure you have many, many more. And Brenda needs to post her delicious chocolate pudding cake recipe. And I know Beth has plenty too! Hmmm…now I’m hungry.
