I am going to Louisianna

September 22, 2008 | Uncategorized

Home Depot from Atlanta called me this morning and asked me if I would join a “Home Depot Disaster Relief” team to go there and help for a week or two with the aftermath of the Hurricaine. They said I may be going to Houston after that. Anyway, its much better pay then I am getting now and even the bus ride there I am on the clock. Also since all my food is paid for that saves me alot in groceries. I was told I just have to listen to customers when they are uptight and yelling at me and try to be understanding of the pressure they are under. I was chosen because I have a forklift license and have very good customer service skills. Basically we go to stores drowned by customers trying to rebuild and help relieve employees already there. I was also told to help any customers with landscaping and drainage problems caused by the hurricaine wth any of their questions. I am sure their landscaping though is the least of their worries.

  2. Lainie, that really sounds wonderful. Where do you stay while you are out of town? You will be like a traveling housecare nurse (A nurse for the actually dwelling) like Lynda used to do for hospitals. That’ll be an adventure as well…

  7. Lainie: Let us know if we can help in any way. Certainly we can “do stuff” if you come to the Houston area.

FWIW, our ward/stake will be sending work-crews out each weekend to help with the cleanup.

Oh, and it doesn’t surprise me that you get consistently high scores in customer service. You’re an empath.

  9. Lainie, that’s wonderful! i’m so proud of you i could bust! You just keep proving yourself over and over! To God, to yourself, to your church, and to your family.

It’s amazing that you can still forgive and love your family after the way you got kicked around, but you forgot it, and moved on to bigger and better things. And you will move on to even better things at the rate you’re going. I think that the Lord has something wonderful in store for you. just keep moving in the direction that you’re traveling.
    I love you so much….MOM

  10. Lainie, I just remembered something that Mrs. Polhemus said to me one time. So IRONIC. I told you this before. It was when I was staying with her that six weeks before I left for Michigan to be with Bill for three months, while he was in training at Dow Chemical Company. I still remember that six weeks so vividly. It was a happy time for me. I lived in the little cottage on the Polhemus property. Everyday i just took care of you (two months old) Buddy (18 months old), and Bill (three years and four months old). I read, and the boys ran around in the yard. You slept a lot, etc. I took you around to the bay, and walked up and down, while the boys played in the water, and you slept in your stroller.

One day, Mrs. Polhemus looked down at you in your play pen on the floor in the Polhemus living room, and she said, “someday, she will be your salvation.”

I thought that was so funny! Mrs. Polhemus was saying that, because at the time both of her boys were a disappointment to her. She didn’t approve of either one of them in their choice of a wife. I didn’t realize how much she didn’t like me. But I knew she thoroughly didn’t like Jo Anne. Salvation. Well. In a way, her prophecy has had some meaning, because you have made me very happy since you straightened up your life, and you continue to struggle and strive. It helps me to know that you do this. It strengthens my own faith, because I have really struggled these past five years.

  11. well, with good fortune, comes bad. I guess you have now read above I was robbed and my car stolen at compass bank atm. They don’t think it will be recovered. Its some kind of scam maybe, because all of a sudden I am getting all these e-mails about auto loans. sheesh..

  12. Well they found my car. The detective worked so hard this week to recover it, because their have been alot of car jackings in this area lately and he is working on this case. They kept my car for 24 hours to try and get fingerprints. You never know, maybe they will catch these guys. but the guy had on a ski mask and gloves so I don’t know. I will be in Louisianna for 2 days and in Houston for 7 days. Hopefully they will give me a day off and I can see Bill.
