Here are the family naming patterns that were taught to me.
1st Son: Named after the Father
2nd Son: Named after the Maternal Grandfather
1st Daughter: named after the Maternal Grandmother
2nd Daughter: named after the Paternal Grandmother
So… it will either be a 2nd son or a 2nd daughter.
Son will be named after Julie’s Dad
Daughter after Your mother.
You more or less followed the pattern w/ little Ben.
Not sure where Lily’s name came from:)
Allie is named Alaina Elizabeth…. Elaine after mom
Jacob is a derivative of the anglicized James and happens to be Melissa’s Grandfathers name.
Adam-Michel should have been named for Melissa’s Father but we didn’t like him so he is partially named after her brother.
Ethan there is neither rhyme nor reason behind his name. He is just like no other:)

Well this is how I named my kids. “Casey” because this was always my favorite name whether it be a boy or girl, and come to find out the day she was born her grandmother told me that “Casey” was the name of Joe’s pretend friend when he was 2 and 3 . His invisable friend LOL. But I did name her Casey “Ann” after Joe’s Mother. I named Chelsea “Chelsea Elaine ” after my Mom. and I named Bailey “Bailey Elizabeth” after Beth. I like names like, Casey, chelsea, and Bailey because they rhyme with mine. Anyway, I am very happy about the anouncement Ben. I love as many kids that come into this family as possible. I will be so happy to be a grandmother one day.

Buddy was taught that way of naming children by his father, I think. Anyway, that is the way the Scottish folks have always named their sons and daughters in the ancient past. Not so ancient, as I have been knee-deep in genealogy again, but the names get so boring after awhile. There can only be so many James’s Richard’s Andrew’s and John’s.
Nevertheless, I’m going to suggest another James. James Ellis for the boy, and call him Jamey. James Ellis, as you know by now, was my brother who died when he was twelve.
If it is a girl…..Julie should select from her side of the family. Of course, she really should select from her side of the family, since you named little Ben after yourself, Ben. Therefore, if you follow the correct pattern, he should be named after the maternal grandfather, and the girl should be named after the paternal grandmother. Buddy, who would be the paternal grandmother????

Never mind. I know how it goes. A boy should be named after Julie’s father, and a girl after me. “Elaine” is an excellent middle name. Only Chelsea was given the name of “Elaine”, and then Holli changed it to “Alaina”. Therefore, I still don’t have a grandchild named after me, so I’m open for discussion on the matter. It need only be the middle name.:>)
