I've been completely out of touch with them, Maria. But it was Joyce and I that had to wake Jim up several years ago to the fact that Angie had alzeimers. He didn't want to accept it. The last time I got any recognition from Angie wasn't a whole lot, but that was in 2000. I brought her over to the house, and then we went to McDonald's for hamburgers. Afterwards we went for a walk in front of Baptist-Montclair. She talked continually, saying the same things over and over and over.
The next time I saw her, she just stared at me with blank eyes, and I burst into tears. I knew I wouldn't know my friend again until the next life, and I knew Jim had many hard years ahead of him, because she is basically very healthy. She must be about 61 years old now. Maybe a little older.
That is an awful disease. I just talked to my cousin, Larry, for about a whole hour. He said it was terrible to watch his once friendly, happy mother lose her sight of everything. Well, she's at peace now, and on May 5th of next year, I can do her Ordinance work.
Larry told me something very interesting. Our cousin, Howard....Ruth's son....had moved to Birmingham about a year before we left. I went to see his daughter, Kathy, dance in The Nutcracker with Ruth, and her daughter (my first cousin,) Ellen. Of course, it was at the Civic Center. Anyway, Howard has somehow invested his money with Forbes and is now worth somewhere around 11 million.
It's not a secret, Larry said. Howard would never talk about it. He lives in Nashville, now. But he's in the news with Forbes.
He's the brother to Cherry, who just died. I'm anxious to find out when Cherry died. Larry thinks it was a year ago. I want to do her ordinance work, and I'm pulled back and forth about asking permission. Bill...Lainie...somebody...what do you think about asking permission???Luis is the one I need to consult. No, farther up the line than that. I need to consult the Savior. Really, I'm not sure what to do about it. I've already baptized Ruth.

That is sad; I was afraid it might be Alzheimer's. It is fortunate that they are making some headway in determining the root cause of the disease, which will hopefully lead to a cure.

Sister Dollins has had a severe case of alzeimers for some years now. She is basically totally dependant on Jim. I talk to him every month or so when I see him at the Piggly Wiggly here in Bluff Park. I also see sister Hyde quite often, she is always a smile a minute.
