How Much Is That Doggie On The Far Right?
April 19, 2008 | Kid Brag | Comments [6]
This is from Amaya’s dance recital in May 2007. It’s amazing how much she has grown in nearly a year!
Anyway, appropriate for her family, Amaya is the little doggie on the very far right in this video.
Enjoy!
Ehh sure why not

Well, I have never mentioned my friend Desiree before… But I thought I WOULD drop off this video I made of her and me. Its a silly little thing, but I made it mostly for her since she is going through something terribly tough. Its encouragement to be patient and work for your dreams and just keep going.
Maria Moved two weeks Ago

Luis E-mailed everybody, but I never posted it here on the Website. The one thing he may not have said was that he and Maria did all of the moving alone. There was no one else available to help, except me, and they wouldn’t let me touch a thing, for fear I would fall. They just kept saying, “no, you’re doing fine, right where you are.” They tried to make me think I was “guarding” the two apartments, while they moved stuff out of one, and into the other. What kind of nincompoop did they take me for? But I just let them think it, as they toiled and labored and sweated. I could hardly believe that just the two of them handled that whole affair. Then, Maria took us out to eat at a very good restaurant. I don’t remember the name of it. But, I do remember that I had the best country-fried steak and mashed potatoes I have ever tasted.
The two of them still had energy to spare. Energy begets energy. Luis had to drive two hours to home.
Maria is two minutes away from the beach by car. Ten minutes if one chooses to walk. I love her apartment. It’s old, and that’s the charm. The kitchen is little, and very old-fashioned. Perfect for one little Ree-ree. (sniffle…I think I’d better go to bed)

I talked to Casey this morning on the way to work. She wants you to sign her up on this website as “casey” login caseyr, she gets internet at her apartment now. She isn’t allowed to go to “myspace” of course (when I asked her about it she said she didn’t even think about it) She can’t go to the reunion , , I want whats best for her right now. She is doing unbelievable!! She truly is a different person, she has definately had a soul change. She also said she was never coming back to live in Birmingham anymore (which I am all for). I told her I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Bailey. As soon as Bailey is 18, I hope to move as well. I am certain God has a plan for Casey and it will all fall into place. She is exactly where she’s suppose to be.
CARTOON: Barack Obama & “Bitter” Christians

For those of us who’ve never seen it, the above is a famous illustration (cover from the Saturday Evening Post Magazine, November 24, 1951) by painter Norman Rockwell. Of course, while the notion of being “overtly religious” has been a bit unusual for some time (notice the awkward expressions on the faces of the other diners – and this was 1951), now being “religious” is, according to one Presidential candidate at least, a sign of being almost dangerously unbalanced.
Here’s a cartoon I came across earlier today, that illustrates just how “nutty” this really is:

Did you give Mom and Dad that agapanthus I gave you? If not, and your new apartment has more sun on the porch, you can keep it but just put it in a larger pot so it can multiply.
Of course this will work..

Family Fun Day at Shades Mountain
April 14, 2008 | Kid Brag | Comments [2]
We had a great time with Bailey again this month. Jacob was unable to be with us this time. He got his first job working at Domino’s Pizza on the phones and had to work that day (he is saving up for a Gibson SG3 guitar which he Badly wants). Poor Lainie can hardly ever get a decent day off of work. She was able to be off at 2:30 on Saturday and we were planning to have a cookout at my house and then spend the evening playing badminton. Unfortunately Grady Gibbons 50th HS Reunion was the same night and he had to leave by 6:30 so it looked as though we might have only had a couple of hours to get together. However, Melissa called to tell me that Ethan’s Elementary school was having their Family Fun day and silent auction that afternoon and we have not missed one since Allie was in kindergarten 11 years ago. I called Lainie and we met at Melissa’s house and went on to the FFD. Farling was home to watch Bailey for the evening so we didn’t have to have Bailey back until 7 or so. We had a blast. Cake walks, inflatable fun rides, cotton Candy and of course the yearly ‘Silent’ auction (All proceeds go to the school) that Melissa uses to get bargains on the summer activities for the kids.
Allie is the MASTER of the Cake Walk. Every year she never has to enter more than 2-3 times before she gets a cake for her Mom and the younger boys.
Melissa, on the other hand, stays in the auction room for a couple of hours and peruses the items she feels are requisite that the kids will need and systematically watches the rising of the bids until the last 60 seconds, whereupon she releases the folks she has drafted to put in the last bids and secure her items (this year it was only me). There were only 2 MUSTS this year. A Workout boot camp for her and the ‘Camp Cosby’ week for the 2 younger boys. For the boot camp I got the bid in in the last 15 seconds and paid $80 for the $210 item. The Camp Cosby was listed for $1500 (believe me that is realistic as I coughed up the funds for it last year). She got the bid in for $625. Her method is simple, walk over to the item in the last 15 seconds, slowly write down your number and bid and walk away WITH the pen as the clock ticks down 3…2…1! She has infuriated a dozen people over the years but has gotten her main item of interest every time.
Lainie even bid on and WON a watch for $15…. she called me when she got home to let me know that the watch didn’t even work:) I thanked her for donating the $15 to Ethan’s school and reminded her to write it off on her taxes next year.
I am having a hard time inserting newly downloaded music

I downloaded 2 new songs today and although they show up in Itunes, (I switched from Realplayer thinking this would solve the problem) they don’t show up in the folders when I browse???
Games to Play
April 13, 2008 | Reunion 2008 | No Comments
After the kids are tucked away, and not before. It could take until midnight, but bring something fun to play. I don’t know what? That’s in Carmen’s department. There are the usual old timers like Scrabble and Monopoly and Pictionary (which Jordan, Bailey, Lainie Beth, Jacob, Christopher) and that age group might like, or might not. Or maybe cards (Hearts, canasta,) I’ve forgotten. Bill and I, with our friends, played a lot of cards overseas. I don’t remember them. Bridge for one, but I was stupid, and couldn’t catch on. It was best when I really was the “dummy”.
Anyway, think about it, if you want to play games at night or anytime for that matter.
The Photo Gallery
April 13, 2008 | Reunion 2008 | No Comments
It just wouldn’t be a proper Family Reunion without a Photo Gallery. Where to set it up? Beth and Brenda can maybe look over the prospects when they go for their inspection. Maybe one of the walls of a cabin will do, as long as we don’t do any damage. Maybe each cabin or chalet, or even motel room could set up a gallery of your own, and we won’t have one big one. We could just enjoy looking at them from place to place.
What do you think?
I realize we have a place on this site to post photos, but not nearly as much space as we need.
By the way….Julie, if you read this…..thanks so much for the last two pictures you sent. They were so cute, of course. How could they not be.
