  3. It’s a “guitar” that has six strings devoted to “melody” and six strings for “bass.” Instead of picking or plucking the strings you simply tap them against the fingerboard. It is set up to be sensitive enough so that the strings sound when they are tapped.

This gives you an instrument that is more like a piano in capability, and you can do the same kinds of “sophisticated” music with it.

It’s just something I wanted to learn how to do. But a “Chapman Stick” (named after the inventor Emmett CHAPMAN), which is the original instrument of this type, is very expensive. However, I found a website online where this guy Kevin Siebold (the one playing in the video) makes them much less expensively, and I ordered one. They’re all “custom” so I got to pick out how it would look, what woods it would be made of, how many strings, how they would be arranged, etc.

Just something fun, and I guess now it’s a sort of “heirloom.” Perhaps when it defeats me, I’ll give it to Seay. I’ve given him a lot of my old stuff over the years.
