Ryder and Dylan - Opposites Attract
January 18, 2008 | Kid Brag
I took these pics yesterday morning before school. 1/17/08
There could never be two more opposite children living under one roof than Ryder and Dylan. This morning, for instance, Ryder was not allowed to wear his school shirt until AFTER he ate his breakfast and brushed his teeth because otherwise his class would know what he had for breakfast and what brand of toothpaste he used. Ryder wears everything he eats or drinks and uses his shirt as a napkin. It saves time.
Dylan, on the other hand, had me spend 10 minutes working with his hairstyle in the mirror to ensure every strand was in place before leaving for school. He also refuses to wear a tabogan because it messes up his hair. His clothes are immaculate from morning until night. Never a smear or drop anywhere. He has always deplored having food or drink spilled on his clothing or getting his hands dirty.
As opposite as these two are, however, their relationship is so much like their uncles Buddy and Bill. Dylan IDOLIZES Ryder and as long as Dylan is quiet, doesn’t move and keeps his mouth shut then Ryder allows his little brother to hang out with him. And heaven help him if Dylan smacks his food around his big brother!!

Yeah, I was sort of surprised that Ryder allowed Dylan to “touch him” at all for that pic.
Beth, I was thinking that maybe we ought to arrange for a “kid-swap” during the summers from now on (till the kids get old enough to say “heck, no, I’m not goin’ down there!”)
We could send Ethan and Isaiah up to your place for a couple of weeks, then you could send Ryder and Dylan here for a couple of weeks. That way, the boys get to know their cousins a bit better, and have a relationship.
Buddy and I spent quite a bit of time with the LeMays and (especially) the Crains, and it was great to have cousins near our age that we were close to, at least emotionally.
We’ll talk about it when you drop by next weekend.

Beth, I have not seen your boys in a loong time. They are handsome young men and I think it’s incredible how old they are.
I don’t know why but I find myself amazed by them. Perhaps because they’re just two steps ahead of my own.
Well, either way, their stories are legendary and now I have faces to go along with them.

LOL, Benny, Ryder’s stories definitely are memorable. Of course you’re talking to a Mamma so there is some bias there for sure. But, I don’t really come across children like ours very often…

Oh, BTW, Beth, I just read an interview in Reader’s Digest with Dr. Neal Clarke Warren, founder of eHarmony.com. The interviewer asked him if it was true that opposites attract.
He shook his head and said “well, opposites ATTRACT, but right afterward, they ATTACK!”

I keep going back to the “Home” page, and seeing the “Ugly Baby” pop up, and now here I see Dylan and Ryder, and I’m reminded once more of four sons and five daughters, and fourteen grand-daughters and nine grand-sons, and one great grand-daughter…
all absolutely beautiful babies, grown into good-looking teen-agers and on into fine-looking middle-aged folks. Yes! I puff out my chest with PRIDE! And I know I shouldn’t. Just can’t seem to help it.
And it isn’t so much the looks that count with those who have grown into manhood and womanhood. It’s the fact that all of my posterity are such good people. I’m so pleased with all of you. Thank you for all the joy that you have brought into my life, and I think I speak for Luis, too.
(sniffle) Guess I’d better go to bed.
