A good endorsement, well reasoned.
I’ve just had this hunch all along that Romney will be the nominee. The NR article outlines why I think he’ll probably win it.
I’d like to see a stalwart man of God, and Elder in Israel, juxtaposed against a Leftist like Hillary.

Once again, Cynthia my friend in Indiana had to bring Romney’s possibilities into focus. I think she speaks for a LOT of conservative america. She said:
This is how I view this religion question when it comes to politics. I don’t trust the capabilities or leadership of any politician just because he’s a man of faith. Even if I knew he was absolutely sincere. After all – just look at what a disaster Carter was.:)
Believing in “something” – God, the Universe – is important because I think that gives a moral framework. But should we be parsing the tenets of a particular faith down to every small detail as a test of worthiness to be president?
All religions have their peculiarities or what others would see as such … The Catholics had saints and rituals and purgatory and marriage annulments. The Christian [protestant] Church thinks you have to be completely covered with water or you aren’t saved.:) The Southern Baptists think once saved and baptised, you have a pass on ANY sin you commit afterward. There are snake handlers and people who think women with short hair and/or wear makeup are going to hell. But what does any of THAT have to do with whether a man can lead this country or not?
And then there’s the question – okay so say someone IS a particular faith. Or says he is. Do we then start finding out if they really believe every bit of what that church teaches? Maybe they SAY they’re a Southern Baptist like Huckabee – but they really aren’t or aren’t anymore. So should those evangelicals – the ones who are extreme and unreasonable over Romney – should they “test” Huckabee to vet his S. Baptist credentials? How would they determine just what is in his heart and mind? Wouldn’t it be better to instead go by how the man acts, what he says, what he’s done in his life? And if you judge by those standards, Romney would please even the most devout evangelical. Or anyone else for whom character and moral strength – and leadership – matter.
