I FOUND IT!!
October 12, 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments
Most of you, or maybe all of you, don’t even remember what I lost. Well, it was the $1,000 reducted to $500 bracelet that Dad gave me last Christmas. I thought we had turned this house upside down, and also the Orlando Temple, looking for it, but not so. Carmen got on an organizing and cleaning spree, and so I joined in, and cleaned out a dresser drawer, bottom right, that hadn’t been touched in four years. Way in the back, and hidden under a little winter toboggan - THERE IT WAS!!
How on earth it got there, only the Angels in Heaven know. Or maybe the demons below more than likely, because there is just no possible way that it could have gotten there. No way, I tell you.
We’re having Dad’s happy birthday cake and a barbecue with church friends tomorrow, so it isn’t too late to say Happy Birthday, if you haven’t already.
Books

Do any of you guys have an IPOD video or Shuffle? I have all these audio books I would love to share but they are not MP3. They are in an .aa file. I think they will however play with itunes. is anyone interested? maybe i could post them somewhere and whoever wanted them could get them. Is that possible? Many of the books (ok, MOST of the books) are kid friendly if any of the grandkids might want them. Not ALL are kiddish. I do have Most of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of time and lots of fun/girl books. (btw. robert jordan died last month for anyone that reads his books).
AND…NO saucy remarks about me having an ipod. it was a very needed gift that got me through work for 2 years. i was able to listen to books and podcasts and tune out the office gossip!! worth EVERY PENNY! I definately recommend.
I will make a list of some of the books I have in case you are interested.

OK Football Fans! Bengals vs undefeated Saints?
October 10, 2007 | Kid Brag | No Comments
The Bengal’s defeat last week by the Falcons was a sobering affair. The week’s practice was nothing less than a Lombardi spring training camp. Block, Tackle and more blocking and tackling. No time spent on offense or special teams.
Sunday the coaches called a film practice to go over video of our last 2 games. The players were amazed at who the real standouts were. Not the boys with the big mouths and personality but some of the smallest and quietest players on the team. Coach Humphrey initiated a new ‘Monster’ defense with a 6 man line, 2 linebackers, 2 cornerbacks and 1 free safety, all moved much closer to the line. The Saints were known for their running game and their sweeps and the Bengals were going to meet them up close and personal. Adam at cornerback was going to have to be SUPER on his toes and take care of ANYTHING attempting to come around his right corner.
I dropped Adam off at the field Tuesday night and told him to do his best while I went to pick up Jacob from Band practice. When I returned at halftime, Melissa met me at the field and the score was 0-0.
The Saints took the ball in the 3rd quarter and made no progress and punted. The Bengals 3rd down from a Tebow style shotgun took Marlon Humphrey into the end zone on a left sweep for 30 yards. There was holding on the point after so Marlon had to plow it in from 5 yards back for the extra point.
Our defense was amazing. Denied, denied, denied! The Saints only made 3 first downs the entire game. Our offensive time of possession would have been the envy of the NFL. We simply ran the clock down until they had 11 seconds to try and score from their own 15 yard line.
Two incomplete passes later, we were celebrating in the end zone. Bengals win 7-0. Our 4th shutout. This could win us the bye for the playoffs in 2 weeks even though the top 3 teams are all 4-1.
We play the Panthers again next week and then the Steelers again (we lucked drawing the 2 teams we have already shut out for the end of our schedule). Then on to the playoffs!!!!!!

Dad and I went back to the temple today after one month away. Things happen. A new President and Matron were called. I talked to the Sister who lost her husband last July in the car accident in Alaska for the first time. She burst into tears. We were in the cafeteria. She was surrounded immediately. What angels in the temple!! Luis and I met a man who sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for six years. His wife appeared, and said she had five babies, and couldn’t sing. He said the experiences were out of this world.

My job
October 9, 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments
I have to talk about this because this goes for any job. I lo-o-o-o-ve my job, I work for a nursery as a Landscape consultant/salesman. However, the manager over the retail and wholesale had a pretty bad inventory count several months ago so the corporate company decided to rearrange the “job titles” and redo some things and everyone had to re-interview for their jobs as well as apply if they wanted for new jobs. There were a lot of jobs thrown out there but the only job I re-interviewed for was my own job because that was the only job I wanted.
I will start school in January taking one or two classes a semester in “Landscape Design’ and Horticulture which i am paying for myself so the only responsibiltiy I wanted was to go to work and sale and work with customers and go home. No supervisor postions and i guess no other responsibilty. I am good at politics and I give alot of leads to the wholesale department to landscapers that I consider good and fair ( stone workers, etc. ). I figure once I am certified as a Landscape Designer they can scratch my back.
Anyway, they hired several new positions and called each person in to tell them there new job offers. I had finally been upped to full time salesman/consultant/retail and they only offered me back down to part time salesman etc. I said that was fine and I could even cashier part-time if they needed me to make it full time. That was fine with them , but they let go some fantastic workers and hired new ones and I just felt like that was so wrong and it makes me feel so bad. I don’t like companies that do things like that.
They for instance hired a real sweet young beautiful girl as retail supervisor, and that is fine and all but how could they fire people to make room for her. One of the assistant retail managers was a little floored because he said I was the best salesman that they had and he couldn’t see why they would knock me back down to part time salesman. I told him, I pay my tithing and I “know” I am a great salesman/consultant and i feel fine and positive things would work out. I have only been their 8 months and customers already call for me all the time and come in all the time requesting me. They say i am so much more patient and kind to them then others.
Any thoughts.
Snake attack!
October 8, 2007 | Uncategorized | Comments [1]
Benjamin has figured out how to escape out the front door, so as I was finishing up lunch he and Lily went out. I pursued, and Lily met me saying the stray cat had a dead snake. She wanted to show me, and I approached cautiously. On the curbing, next to our house was a long garter snake all curled up to where you couldn’t see his head, and yes, was not moving. Lily seemed curious about trying to move it, so we threw a stick on it to determine if it was really dead. We threw a small stick and it did not move.
Lily then took the stick and began to pry the snake off the ground. Suddenly, it reared its head, fell to the ground, and headed straight for us. Lily was off like a shot and in the house I think before Benjamin and I even moved. Benjamin was scared stiff and we were all screaming in terror. So I rescued lil’ Ben (the snake just about crawled over his bare feet) and we ran into the house. Both the kids were crying, but as we calmed down I began to laugh and Lily laughed too. I’m sure we were a funny sight, all running around screaming in the front yard.
Now everytime we go out, Benjamin looks toward where the snake had lain and mumbles something about the “woim” (worm). He was also quite concerned by a shoelace in someone’s driveway while taking a walk at dusk with Marsha on Saturday evening. Hopefully, he’s not scarred for life, I guess.

Why DO you despise the U of A. You didn’t say. Tony was here yesterday, and he was blasting away at all universities, and especially UAB. He said he was made to feel like trash by the (office administration? Those who are supposed to be helpful to you in getting your loans etc. in order).
Believe it!

Brenda and I pored over a whole portfolio of Laine Beth’s artwork and I am astonished and so puffed up that I have a granddaughter so talented. She is an amazing artist. I hope Buddy will continue to slip us more when Lainie Beth isn’t looking.
Friday already?
October 5, 2007 | Travels | No Comments
Well, it’s going to be Saturday in just thirty minutes. I can’t believe we’ve been home since Tuesday night. Bill, I’m so sorry we didn’t call. I slept all day Wednesday and Thursday.
Don’t even speculate.
I finally woke up today, and found out most of everything that has been going on. Only this morning did I think about asking Luis if he called you.
Anyway. We had a wonderful time. Our children are so good to us. However, it will be a long time before we make a long trip again. Dad didn’t do very well this time. He was in agony with his back when he got home. Our age is showing.
We bumped Ryder out of his bed, and that didn’t work out too well. Ryder needs his space. It was hard on Beth. We rolled on to Ben’s house, and bumped Ben and Julie out of their Beds.
Big Ben landed on the small livingroom sofa, and Julie on the small bed with Lily. Not too comfortable. They insisted that we have their huge and extremely comfortable bed. We liked having the kids in the bed with us. Little Ben is the image if his father. Lily is likewise the image of her mother. Wonder what’s coming next? And congrats to Ben, who had installed a new bathroom all by himself.
Dad made a big pot of his special chili recipe at Beth’s house, and then brewed it up nice and spicy at Ben’s house. It was only fair. Yum! It’s fabulous. Beth and Julie appreciated it, as did Nancy, when he whomped it up on Sunday afternoon at Bill’s house. I ddin’t know it, but he had stocked up the car with all of the ingredients he needed, except the ground beef.
Of course, the highlight of the time at Bill’s house was the two ballgames on Friday and Saturday night between the Astros and the Braves. I think I like watching games in the comfort of my house. Dad is in there this very minute watching a game between the Los Angeles Angels and the Boston Red Sox. I went to check, and he’s sitting there in his chair, hand on remote, sound asleep. I had better go put him to bed.
Thanks to all of you for giving us a wonderful time. We love you so deeply and dearly. MOM
About Ben’s Car…

Ben, if you’d be willing to give it to me, I’ll see that it gets some good use.
Well, “use,” anyway.
Okay, it may well be used as a getaway vehicle in a string of Circle-K robberies for all I know, but maybe some good will come of it in the end. People can change, you know.
Let me hear from you soon.

Bengals fall to Falcons 23-16
October 3, 2007 | Kid Brag | Comments [7]
Disappointing Defeat 10/2. Bengals are now 3-1
Adam only played 1.5 quarters. The Falcons had our number most of the night.
Adam had been sick over the weekend and only watched practice before the game. Melissa couldn’t make the game since she had to do all the prep for Allie’s Birthday… we’ve decided she can’t miss another one since she is probably the ingredient that made for all their wins (I take him to all Practices, she must make it to all Games)
Big one against the Saints coming up on Tuesday next to stay in the playoff running. Saints are the only undefeated team and only beat the Falcons by 1 point.
At least we got home for Allie’s Birthday and her new DOG (Chinese Crested Powder Puff) named Ginger.

I’m going to try to fix this place up so that it’s easier to display photos on the “front page.” Also, I want to set up “true photoblogging” so that you can take a pic with your camera-phone and have it show up on the page within minutes, no matter where you are.
These photos of the kids are precious. I hope y’all keep sending more.
Lainie, you should be able to go to the “Uploads” page and put the pic of Casey there. If nothing else works, email it to me and I’ll put it up for you.
Love to all (and even to Mom and Dad who did NOT call me on Monday night OR yesterday to let me know they’re safe. For all I know at this very moment, they’re lying in a ditch somewhere. Could someone please confirm they got home okay?)
UPDATE 10/03/2007
Okay, so they’re NOT dead - not even in a ditch.
Dad called, they got home last night okay, they actually DID stay in Biloxi, MS on Monday night (putting the lie to Buddy, who swore that Dad would take the room-money, drive through and put it on one of his many projects!)
Glad to know they’re still breathing for awhile yet!

The kids love to play in our room and on our bed! Sometimes its annoying when I stumble on toys at night, but someday I’m sure I’ll be wishing they were snuggled up beside me.
